Introduction

Take one productions,
otherwise known as TOP is a professional recording studio owned by William
Blackrose, ideal for recording low to medium budget projects, depending
on the amount of session musicians required and sequencing needed.
The Studio was established in 2004 in Sunnyside Pretoria. Created
mainly for doing pre productions for William Blackrose. From it's
humble beginning consisting of a sound booth, mic, Ronald recording device
and a yamaha sound module with only a couple of hundred sound banks,
it now runs on Cubase with most of the VST sound modules included.
This in short means that the studio now has quite endless opportunity in
the form of producing basically any sound you require.

One of the most
important factors in creating a new, fresh and unique sound is having a
good producer involved with your project. Most sounds can be replicated
to sound like the original, but at the end of the day nothing unique is
accomplished by this. if you want your project to turn out different
in sound than all the other productions on the market you will need to
keep this in mind. At take one production we let the artist decide
what he, she or they would like to do production wise. Over the years
William Blackrose has developed a unique production skill that makes your
product stand out from the rest.

Early days of recording
used to be very limited. You only have to look back at bands like
The Beatles, Elvis Presley, ex who only had access to four track recording
machines. This meant that every note had to be sung perfect and every
harmony had to be repeated endlessly till everything was 100%. The
result of this was that musicians send a lot more time recording the same
thing over and over again. After recording the "Master" recording
was transferred from tape to DAT and a CD was made. Modern recording
methods allows you to record in loops, picking your best vocal and to copy
and paste it over into the rest of the song. In this way a lot of
time is saved and as we all know time is money and the project can be written
directly to CD.

Modern recording
systems like cubase also allows for great VTS plugin software like Auto
Tuning and harmonizing software that allows you to test your voice and
tuning it on to the pitch required. It also enables you to hear your
voice in high and low pitches, impossible for you as a performer to reach.
These vocals can later be added to your mix to enhance your own vocal or
just to make it sound a bit different to the norm

Most studios still
use live drums to record an album. In the case of live drums every
single drum, cymbal, ex. has to be mic'd up separate and equalization has
to be applied to this drum mix. At take one productions we do not
use this technique but instead use virtual drum kits that does not require
separate microphones and thus eliminating a lot of room noise. These
drum tracks can be recorded live (using your drummer) or in midi form which
basically means that the sound of the drum track can be changes after the
recording of it. If you decide at the end of a mix that you rather
wanted a "DISCO" drum sound instead of a "LIVE" sound, it can all be changed
in the final mix which makes this modern way of recording drums quite revolutionary.
Some specific drum sounds can be added by software packages. Some
of the packages included in Take One Productions collection of VST's are
Groove Agent 2 and Stylus RMX.
